Step into a world where art and history converge, and invite classical themes of myth and legend into your work. This workshop invites you, as an artist, to reimagine the timeless heroines of history—not as distant figures, but as vivid personas brought to life through your creative lens.

Join renowned artist Rosso Emerald Crimson for a week-long workshop designed to deepen your understanding of portraiture, figure, color and technique.  We will explore techniques and sensibilities from historic and classical movements, while staying anchored in a thoroughly contemporary approach. Together, we will aim to capture not just the likeness, but the essence of our model—a living embodiment of muses throughout the eras styled in golden fabrics, intricate textures, and an opulent setting.

The Château’s history, spanning from the medieval era to the 18th century, will provide a complete immersion into a rich historic sensibility. Capture the interplay of light and texture on satin, gilded accents, and dramatic backgrounds. Explore techniques to create unique pieces that blend figurative realism with expressive, abstract surroundings.

This workshop offers more than skill-building—it’s an opportunity to refine your artistic perspective and push the boundaries of your creative voice. Creating in community with other artists from around the world, and supported and balanced by an immersive itinerary of play, dining, entertainment, exploration and connection- this will be a week you will never forget.

Due to high demand and to cultivate a cohesive, intimate group dynamic, we invite you to apply below. Beginners are welcome!

Offsite options are still available—apply below to learn more.

Artist's Letter

London-based Italian artist Rosso specializes in expressive portraiture. Her work draws the viewer in with intense, introspective gazes that reveal a personal resonance with the women she paints. Combining traditional and contemporary painting techniques, Rosso's style bridges abstract and figurative elements to create a striking visual balance.

She began her artistic journey after a successful career in advertising and retrained at the London Atelier of Representational Art (LARA), influenced by artists whose work resonated deeply with her. Since then, Rosso has received numerous accolades, including the Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize, Jackson Open Painting Prize, and finalist spots in Sky Portrait Artist of the Year and the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize. She has exhibited internationally, including at the MEAM in Barcelona and the Mall Galleries in London, and her work has appeared in The Artist Magazine, International Artist Magazine, and Portraits for NHS Heroes.

"I am all the women I paint."

Built in 1267

A living part of history.

Château de Puy Vidal is a place where time loosens its grip. As you step through the Renaissance staircase and into the ancient rooms of the central wing, you are walking through eight centuries of history—stone walls that have held silence, art, conversation, and change. But this isn’t a museum. This is a living home, one that holds space for beauty, curiosity, and the creative spirit in all its forms.

Every corner tells a story: tapestries and candlelight in the salons, soft light pouring through antique glass, the echo of laughter from several rooms down the long corridors. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t demand your attention but earns it—slowly, reverently, with details that only reveal themselves when you’re truly present.

Puy Vidal is more than a backdrop for your retreat. It’s a companion in your process—a still and storied presence that grounds you, softens you, and gently calls you back to the joy of creating.

Led with Vision, Sustained by Love

We are your hosts—and it’s our joy to welcome you into the world we’re building here at Château de Puy Vidal.

Lady of the Château was co-founded and is led by Julia and Caroline, a couple and the creative force behind the brand. They are joined by Julia’s sister Penelope and their parents, Maruca and Robert, to create a family-centered space where creativity, personal growth, and meaningful connection are at the heart of everything they do.

Each retreat is crafted in collaboration with carefully selected guest instructors, chefs, and a small but devoted team—all chosen not only for their talent, but for their deep commitment to presence, generosity, and the art of creating together.

We believe in the transformative power of beauty—that when artists, dreamers, and seekers come together in a place that honors their voice, something shifts. We hope to spark a movement—of more art, more intention, and more creative community rippling outward through each person who passes through our doors.

We hope you’ll join us.
